Wasteland Textures 2017

With this project I sought to better understand the process behind the creation of tileable textures for computer graphics. I started from scratch, photographing intricate textures in real life. When transforming these bitmaps into tileable textures, however, I decided to avoid programs such as Substance Bitmap2Mesh or Crazybump. These programs worked but their workflows were automated to the point where I was unable to gain a deeper understanding of the underlying processes. Instead, I opted for an old-school method that utilized Photoshop to convert bitmaps into tileable, high-resolution textures by hand.
